All wearing red shirts and Ka Roger-inspired Mao caps, more than 60 members of the Revolutionary Council of Trade Unions-Southern Tagalog (RCTU-ST) launched a lightning rally in a public market in Calamba City, Laguna at noontime yesterday, 15 October. The lightning rally is part of the coordinated activity by the revolutionary movement, both in the countrysides and cities, to honor Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal who passed away due to heart attack in a guerilla front in Luzon on 22 June 2011.

The lightning rally lasted for nine (9) minutes.

According to RCTU-ST spokesperson Fortunato Magtanggol, “With our raised clenched fists, the revolutionary labor movement in Southern Tagalog pay our highest honor to Ka Roger, his principles and great contributions to the Philippine revolution.”

“Aside from being the spokesperson of the National Democratic Front-Southern Tagalog and later as spokesperson of the Communist Party of the Philippines, Ka Roger greatly contributed to the resurgence of the revolutionary labor movement in the region. With his lead in the Second Great Rectification Movement in the early years of the ‘90s, the errors in the revolutionary labor movement were identified and clear directives were issued to be able to recover and eventually advance in the next years.”

“As our gratitude and unwavering honor to Ka Roger, we shall pursue in consolidating and broadening the revolutionary labor movement, and shall perform the leading role of the working class in the national democratic revolution until socialism,” concluded Magtanggol.
