The 6th Scout Rangers company under the 2nd Scout Rangers Battalion and 102nd Division Reconnaisance Company of the Armed Forces of the Philippines suffered nine casualties on 7 May in the boundaries of Trento town, Agusan del Sur and Monkayo town, Compostela Valley, as Red fighters under the Conrado Heredia Command (CHC)-Guerilla Front 20 Operations Command of the New People’s Army foiled its clearing operations intended to precede large-scale mining operations in the area.

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) challenged the idea that China's heightened assertion of territorial claims over land features in the South China Sea is pushing the Philippines closer to the US. First of May 2012, 2:30 AM -- A team from the Rexan Perez Command of the New People’s Army (RPC-NPA) harassed a unit of the 8th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, launching Community Organizing for “Peace and Development” (COPD) in Purok 7, Barangay (village) Songco, Lantapan, Bukidnon. The 8th IBPA troops suffered nine casualties -- two dead and seven wounded -- as witnessed by civilians.
